Bags! Bags! Bags!

For those of you that have been following my blog, you will notice that the blog has basically transformed from Melinda Mae Handbags information, shows, new products, etc to a music blog. There are a few reasons for that…

1) I LOVE music! And I want to share the good stuff with all of you! There are so many awesome new artists coming out and I want you to enjoy them too!

2) Melinda Mae Handbags has been on a bit of break since my move. It has not completely shutdown since I still do orders for customers that email directly at info@melinda-mae.com and I also have some bags selling at Modern Mouse in Alameda, California. I also have been doing some wedding orders for those of you looking for custom handbags for bridesmaids.

So I want all of you that Melinda Mae Handbags is still around. In fact, I am prepping a new order to go out to Modern Mouse this week, full of wristlets and clutches! Here is a preview of what will be going out so if you like, stop by Modern Mouse in Alameda! What do you think of these?

1 down, 2 more to go…

The Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC) was this past Saturday so I have two more shows in May to prep for. Busy, busy, busy month!

A large crowd attended the Asian Heritage Street Celebration on Saturday, May 15th, even though it was really windy and super cold! I had hoped that the weather wouldn’t be as hot as last year, but instead, it was the complete opposite. I was freezing and I think I caught a cold. =( Prepping for this festival was quite a fiasco since my sewing machine broke (AGAIN!) last Thursday night. But luckily, I was able to run over to Target to pick up a backup machine just to get me through these May shows.

The Melinda Mae booth was located on Golden Gate Street right next to the friendly folks of Squishy Sushi. There was a stage right next to my booth so I had some entertainment throughout the day, which included a balut eating contest, a Yo Yo demonstration and a Sailor Moon performance.

Sailor Moon!

There were health booths set up by the Asian Art Museum, which included a giant inflatable colon for people to walk through. I wish I had taken a picture of that! The Faces of Asia parade also walked past my booth so I could see the beautiful traditional garments from each Asian culture.

Faces of Asia Parade

There was a booth on Larkin street that was selling Panda hats and I saw at least 50 people wearing those Panda Hats. At one point, it felt like they were giving those hats away for free since everyone had one. It turned out they were selling them for $12 and even had Tiger hats too!

Can you spot the panda and the tiger?

I had a great time at AHSC so now it’s time to prep for the Capsule Design Festival! I am very excited for Capsule, which will be held in Hayes Valley in SF on Sunday, May 23rd. Wish me luck in making more Melinda Mae bags for this show! =)

Visit the Melinda Mae Handbags booth (#69) at the Capsule Design Festival on Sunday, May 23rd from 11am – 6pm. The event is FREE and is located on Linden and Octavia in Hayes Valley in San Francisco! Hope to see you there!

Thank you to all the people who stopped by the Asian Heritage Street Celebration on Saturday! Here are some pics of the folks that stopped by the Melinda Mae booth at the AHSC!

Melinda Mae Staff for the day!

Thanks everyone for stopping by the Melinda Mae booth and showing your support! =) Hope to see you at the Capsule Design Festival too!

Melinda Mae @ Asian Heritage Street Celebration!

May is a very busy month for Melinda Mae Handbags! I will be selling my new Melinda Mae wristlets, clutches, small, medium and large bags at 3 vendor shows in May! I’ll be  showcasing my new fabrics and taking pre-orders for the new Melinda Mae baby bags! My very first show in May will be this Saturday, May 15th at the Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC)!

Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC) Saturday, May 15th, 11am - 6pm

This will be my 2nd time selling at the Asian Heritage Street Celebration and I really enjoyed my experience last year. Unfortunately, the celebration was on the hottest day in San Francisco last year so hopefully it won’t be so burning hot this year. The celebration is FREE and is located at the San Francisco Civic Center next to the San Francisco Main Public Library and the Asian Art Museum. AHSC is very easy to get to because it is located right off of the Civic Center BART stop. Last year, there were a number of great vendors and DELICIOUS food. This year, there will be musical performances including Far East Movement and Kapakahi.

Far East Movement

AHSC  will also have mahjong tables at the celebration! So come show off your mahjong skills! Other features to the AHSC include health screenings, a children’s area, Muay Thai Kickboxing, J-car gathering, Jazz and wine tasting and contests! Please stop by the Melinda Mae booth if you do come by! Hope to see you there! Here’s all of the info:

Melinda Mae 2010 Baby Bags!

Melinda Mae Baby Bag!

Announcing the 2010 Melinda Mae Baby Bag! Every year, I introduce a new design and this year is the Melinda Mae Baby Bag! I thought this would be a great new design since I have so many friends that are either expecting, just had a baby or planning to have a baby soon! Here are a couple of examples of Melinda Mae Baby Bags that have already been made and their descriptions:

Melinda Mae Baby Bag!

The Melinda Mae Baby Bags have heavy duty straps for heavy items such as full baby bottles, toys, wipes, etc. There is a shoulder strap and hand straps, depending on what is easier for each person to carry. There are two exterior elastic pockets, perfect for easy access to bottles, cell phone, keys and/or sunglasses. There is a zipper closure at the top to keep all of your items inside.

Look Inside!

Within the baby bag, you will find 3 elastic pockets for more bottles and keeping items in their place. There is also the option of adding an additional 3 elastic pockets to the interior!

Take a closer look!

On the bottom of the bag, there is a plastic piece to help to keep the shape of the bottom of the bag. The bag is also lined with fleece for extra padded cushioning.  The Melinda Mae Baby Bag measures 5″ wide x 16″ long x 12″ tall so it is not too overwhelming large.

Another Melinda Mae Baby Bag!

oooo..look what's inside!

Melinda Mae Baby Bags are currently by custom order only since there are so many possibilities with design and pattern combinations! The possibilities are endless! =) For more details and to order a custom Melinda Mae Baby Bag, please contact me at info@melinda-mae.com. Welcome to the world Melinda Mae Baby Bags! =)

Craft Happy was a success!

Craft Happy 3/20/10

Yesterday, I sold my Melinda Mae handbags at the 1st ever Craft Happy Show in Fremont and it was a success! By success, I mean that I had a wonderful time selling at this show and I was able to meet a lot of really friendly folks! There were 38 local designers selling their crafts and the products ranged from t-shirts, jewelry, handmade flowers, handbags, stationery, candy, frames and plush animals. I restrained myself from buying a bunch of products since that is my usual habit at these craft shows. I did, however, buy some cute notecards from Fat Ninja.

Fat Ninja!

The show was also a massive success since I had a lot of wonderful friends and family members stop by the show! That was a pleasant surprise and made the show even more cheerful. Here are some shots of the show:

I was also able to showcase a lot of my new fabrics for the Spring/Summer 2010 collection. My Melinda Mae wristlets were a great hit too! Thank you again to all of you who stopped by the show. =)
