AIDS Walk NY Recap

Thank you to all of you that sponsored me for AIDS Walk NY and helped to raise funds for HIV/AIDS services in the New York area! This was my first time walking in NY and I was able to enjoy it with 45,000 other NY walkers!

Ready, set, GOOOO!

The 6.2 mile walk started at Central Park, through the Upper West Side, along Riverside Park and ended back at Central Park. The walk had lots of celebrities there as well. Nick Jonas and Vincent Kartheiser (Pete Campbell from Mad Men) were supposedly walking too but I didn’t run into them. I was really hoping to meet Pete Campbell in person. Here are the celebrities I did see:

Dot Jones (Coach Beiste from Glee)

Michael Jackson from the Thriller video and the Coke commercial?

Even teddy bears care about HIV/AIDS services!

Minnie Mouse

Balloon People

Sweet Dee

It was a perfect way to enjoy New York City and raise funds for work that I feel passionately about. More thank yous for the HIV Test Counselors again…I know I’ve said it before but you all are much loved for all the great work that you do.  Again, thank you to all of you that sponsored Team Melinda Mae this year! Who wants to be on Team Melinda Mae for AIDS Walk NY 2013?

MM Jam of the Week: Back for Good

This week’s MM Jam of the Week is a cover of the Take That song “Back for Good” by Born Jamericans. I love the original but this version makes me so happy. Born Jamericans also remind me of some good times during high school so here’s a throwback sort of. =) Enjoy!

MM Jam of the Week: “I want more!”

This week’s MM Jam of the Week is from Young the Giant, “My Body”.  I love how this band sounds and was actually introduced to them through one of my fave shows, Glee. I know I know…some of you will disagree with how much I love Glee but it’s awesome! One of the characters, Blaine, actually sang a Young the Giant song “Cough Syrup” on one of the previous episodes. Once I found the original song, I have not stopped listening to Young the Giant. Hope you enjoy their music too…Have a fabulous week! Stay tuned for a recap of AIDS Walk NY!

Team Melinda Mae @ AIDS Walk NY

In 2009, Team Melinda Mae made an impressive showing at the San Francisco AIDS Walk and raised funds for HIV/AIDS Services and preventative programs in the San Francisco Bay Area. https://melindamaehandbags.wordpress.com/2009/07/20/melinda-mae-team-at-aidswalk-sf/

2009 Team Melinda Mae @ SF AIDS Walk

This year, Team Melinda Mae will be participating in AIDS Walk New York to raise funds for HIV/AIDS services and preventative programs in New York City on Sunday, May 20th! This year’s team will be smaller but the goal is the same in providing hope for a cure for HIV and AIDS.

HIV/AIDS has been a very important issue for me over the past 14 years as I have working within the health field and have seen the impact that it has on all of us. My thanks and appreciation go out to all of you working within the HIV field in all areas of support, especially to my fellow HIV test counselors. Much love!

It’s me, Melinda Mae!

If you’d like to donate to AIDS Walk NY and sponsor Melinda Mae, please go to the donation page HERE. Or if you are in the NYC area on Sunday, May 20th, please join Team Melinda Mae! =)

MM Jam of the Week: Maroon 5 “Payphone”

This week’s MM Jam of the Week is a request from one of my Inspirational Relationships, SRCE. =) I was happy to pick this song since Maroon 5 is one of my favorite bands. I love their music and I am super excited for their next album to be released on June 26th. I am never disappointed with their music and listen to them quite frequently on Spotify. Although I think this music video is pretty lame, I have included it below. Has anyone else noticed that most Maroon 5 videos are an excuse for Adam Levine to show off his tattoos? Does the video make sense to you?

Inspirational Relationships

Today I read an article on “inspirational relationships”. The psychologist defined inspired relationships as the people that we surround ourselves with that constantly inspire and encourage us to be our very best. The psychologist encourages all of us to ONLY surround ourselves with inspirational relationships since these are the people who help us to find our authentic selves.

As I read the article, I thought about all of the inspirational relationships that I have within my life and how grateful I am for each of them. Throughout the 5 years that Melinda Mae Handbags has been in existence, I have been able to meet so many talented designers, artists, entrepreneurs and friends. I consider all of these relationships to be truly inspirational as I was able to learn so much from them and they helped Melinda Mae to continually improve.

Those inspirational relationships were immediately obvious to me but there are so many more relationships that I have within my life that have genuinely inspired me throughout my life such as the friend that encourages me to dream in detail, my sister that checks in with me to make sure that I am okay, the friend that never fails to respond to an email/text, the friend that constantly asks about my goals, the friend that challenges me to ask “why?”, the friend with the blatantly honest opinion and is not afraid to share, the friend that knew exactly what I need at the perfect time, the friend with the best hugz, the friend that always sees the positive no matter what, the family that will be there for me through highs and lows, the prankster that can drag a helium tank into my office and the friend that reads each and every blog post. =)

Well you get the idea. There are just a few of the people within my life that continually encourage me to become my best self and I am extremely grateful. I encourage you to think about those inspirational relationships within your life and be thankful that they are always there to make sure that you know you can achieve your dreams.

My three most Inspirational Relationships ❤

MM Jam of the Week: Falling Slowly

This past weekend, I went to see the musical “Once”, which is based on the 2006 film with the same name. It was really beautifully done and included innovative set changes, a cast of talented musicians and a truly touching soundtrack. Here are some pictures of the cast and set:

Once Musical

The audience was invited to have drinks on the stage prior to the show and at intermission.

Each cast member sang, played an instrument and danced to choreography. I have yet to see the film but would love to see it soon to compare to the musical.

I have included the original song from the film with clips from the film. Please enjoy and hope you get a chance to see “Once”. Have a great week!
