Ice Cream! Did that get your attention? I know it would grab my attention for sure!

On Sunday, May 30th from 11am-5pm, I will be selling my Melinda Mae Handbags at Art in the Square at Ghiradelli Square Plaze in San Francisco, home of the Ghiradelli Chocolate Company. Ghiradelli Square Plaza is located at 900 North Point Street in San Francisco, between Fisherman’s Wharf and Fort Mason.

This will be my first time selling at Art in the Square and I’m excited to debut my Summer 2010 collection of Melinda Mae Handbags. Capsule Design Festival this Sunday 5/23!

This Sunday, May 23rd, will be the Capsule Design Festival in Hayes Valley in San Francisco! I really love selling my Melinda Mae handbags at this festival, which only takes place in May and in October every year. The designers are juried so the products at Capsule are a great sampling of all of the best Bay Area independent designers. There will be about 120 independent designers selling jewelry, apparel, art work, handbags, accessories and other unique items that you may not be able to find anywhere else! This will be my fifth time selling at Capsule and I hope it will be a warm and sunny day in San Francisco. The wind has been strong these days so hopefully the wind won’t blow my handbags and canopy away! The Melinda Mae Handbag booth will be located at Booth #69 at the intersection of Octavia and Linden. I hope I will see you at Capsule! For more info, go to

1 down, 2 more to go…

The Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC) was this past Saturday so I have two more shows in May to prep for. Busy, busy, busy month!

A large crowd attended the Asian Heritage Street Celebration on Saturday, May 15th, even though it was really windy and super cold! I had hoped that the weather wouldn’t be as hot as last year, but instead, it was the complete opposite. I was freezing and I think I caught a cold. =( Prepping for this festival was quite a fiasco since my sewing machine broke (AGAIN!) last Thursday night. But luckily, I was able to run over to Target to pick up a backup machine just to get me through these May shows.

The Melinda Mae booth was located on Golden Gate Street right next to the friendly folks of Squishy Sushi. There was a stage right next to my booth so I had some entertainment throughout the day, which included a balut eating contest, a Yo Yo demonstration and a Sailor Moon performance.

Sailor Moon!

There were health booths set up by the Asian Art Museum, which included a giant inflatable colon for people to walk through. I wish I had taken a picture of that! The Faces of Asia parade also walked past my booth so I could see the beautiful traditional garments from each Asian culture.

Faces of Asia Parade

There was a booth on Larkin street that was selling Panda hats and I saw at least 50 people wearing those Panda Hats. At one point, it felt like they were giving those hats away for free since everyone had one. It turned out they were selling them for $12 and even had Tiger hats too!

Can you spot the panda and the tiger?

I had a great time at AHSC so now it’s time to prep for the Capsule Design Festival! I am very excited for Capsule, which will be held in Hayes Valley in SF on Sunday, May 23rd. Wish me luck in making more Melinda Mae bags for this show! =)

Visit the Melinda Mae Handbags booth (#69) at the Capsule Design Festival on Sunday, May 23rd from 11am – 6pm. The event is FREE and is located on Linden and Octavia in Hayes Valley in San Francisco! Hope to see you there!

Thank you to all the people who stopped by the Asian Heritage Street Celebration on Saturday! Here are some pics of the folks that stopped by the Melinda Mae booth at the AHSC!

Melinda Mae Staff for the day!

Thanks everyone for stopping by the Melinda Mae booth and showing your support! =) Hope to see you at the Capsule Design Festival too!

Melinda Mae @ Asian Heritage Street Celebration!

May is a very busy month for Melinda Mae Handbags! I will be selling my new Melinda Mae wristlets, clutches, small, medium and large bags at 3 vendor shows in May! I’ll be  showcasing my new fabrics and taking pre-orders for the new Melinda Mae baby bags! My very first show in May will be this Saturday, May 15th at the Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC)!

Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC) Saturday, May 15th, 11am - 6pm

This will be my 2nd time selling at the Asian Heritage Street Celebration and I really enjoyed my experience last year. Unfortunately, the celebration was on the hottest day in San Francisco last year so hopefully it won’t be so burning hot this year. The celebration is FREE and is located at the San Francisco Civic Center next to the San Francisco Main Public Library and the Asian Art Museum. AHSC is very easy to get to because it is located right off of the Civic Center BART stop. Last year, there were a number of great vendors and DELICIOUS food. This year, there will be musical performances including Far East Movement and Kapakahi.

Far East Movement

AHSC  will also have mahjong tables at the celebration! So come show off your mahjong skills! Other features to the AHSC include health screenings, a children’s area, Muay Thai Kickboxing, J-car gathering, Jazz and wine tasting and contests! Please stop by the Melinda Mae booth if you do come by! Hope to see you there! Here’s all of the info:

I’m with COCO!

I'm with Coco!

A couple weeks ago, I was lucky enough to see CONAN O’BRIEN live at the San Francisco Masonic Home and he was even funnier now that I can’t see him every night on the Tonight Show.  I was sad when Conan went off the air, especially since I don’t find Jay Leno or David Letterman funny at all.  The San Francisco Masonic Home was packed with COCO fans sporting posters, orange wigs, glowsticks and ready for extreme laughter.

San Francisco Masonic Home

Conan opened the show with a video clip of what his life has been like in the last 3 months since he was “released” from NBC.

The clip showed Conan sporting a long beard and belly surrounded by beer and pizza while waiting for a gig.

Throughout the show, there was a number of references to the events that has caused Conan to go on this “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television” Tour. I thought Conan was hilarious in his stand up and even funnier when he brought up recurring skits and jokes from his Tonight Show days.

Conan played the guitar often and sang multiple songs. He even sang with surprise guest rockabilly singer, Chris Isaak. Conan’s band was behind him the whole show including La Bamba, but minus Max Weinberg. Andy Richter was also there to be Conan’s side-kick and Conan’s writer, Deon Cole, had a pretty amusing stand-up routine.

The Masterbating Bear!

Some enjoyable moments included Conan transforming his character, the Masterbating Bear, into the Self-Pleasuring Panda and having a clip of Triumph the Insult Dog, which was dubbed deliberately to include San Francisco specific hotspots. There was also a nice mention of Sam Wo, the Chinatown restaurant that Conan visited in 2007, which was the last time he performed in SF.

What I enjoyed the most about Conan’s television shows and his live performance is his “Walker, Texas Ranger” clips, which highlight all of the most ridiculous scenes from the Chuck Norris show. But since the lever is technically “intellectual property” of NBC, Conan changed the name to the Rural Policeman Handle. With this part of the show, Conan showed about 5 quick snippets of the show, which had everyone crying with laughter. Ok, maybe it was just me. haha Conan ended the show with a song and ran into the audience, while singing and playing the guitar. Then giant yellow beach balls with Conan’s signature cartoon face were tossed into the crowd. I tried to grab one but I was much too far away. sad.

I know Conan is sold out for most of his shows but if you are lucky enough to get a ticket, you’ll have a full night of hearty laughter and extreme silliness. And if you can’t get a ticket, just wait until November 2010 to see him back on TV on TBS!
