Find Domo at 7 11!

7 11 stores have been decorating their stores with new Domo decor such as Domo hot dog containers, Domo coffee cups, Domo slurpee cups and Domo displays! They even have a Domo Fiji Apple Slurpee flavor, which is okay but I am still partial to anything with cherry flavor. My favorite part of all this are the collectible Domo straws! So I went on a mission to get all four of the different Domo straws, but unfortunately they were sold out of most of them. I didn’t realize that there are so many 7 11 stores everywhere and I have never visited so many all at one time! So after driving with some friends to 9 total 7 11 stores, here is what I finally collected!

I am missing the last Domo straw, which has Domo wearing headphones and holding a slurpee! I am still hoping to grab one soon…so wish me luck! Here is a link so you can see all of the other Domo items: http://lovelypackage.com/domo-x-7-11/

Domo is actually a mascot for a Japanese television station and has been gained much popularity in the United States. Domo has even been adopted by Target for many of their holiday products and now 7 11 has adopted this much-loved character.

So stop by 7 11 when you get a chance and see if you can find some Domo straws for yourself! Hurry before they are all out!

oooo weee….Common & Maxwell!

On Saturday, I was fortunate enough to attend the Common and Maxwell Concert at the SleepTrain Pavillion in Concord. I wish that everyone would have had a chance to see this spectacular concert! Chrisette Michelle opened up for these two great artists and I was looking forward to seeing her perform live. Unfortunately, we missed her performance because there was so much traffic getting into the parking lot. After we parked, we made our trek to the SleepTrain Pavillion and found our seats at the  beginning of Common’s set.

When we walked in, Common was rocking the crowd with some of his hits off of the Finding Forever album. The crowd was dancing and singing along while Common danced and performed on stage. At one point, he even started to break dance!

Common!

That little small ant in the picture is Common! hah This is the closest that my camera would zoom. I definitely need a new point and shoot camera.  Common sang “Love of My Life”, which is one of my favorite songs and finished his set off with his songs from his Universal Mind Control album.

During the intermission, we took a bathroom break and went to get some yummy garlic fries. This is the line for the women’s bathroom!

Crazy line!

After I scarfed down my garlic fries, Maxwell came out and I was so impressed by the stage sets. Here is the opening set before Maxwell came out.

It was four screens with underwater shots. The screens spread apart to reveal white cloths draped along the back of the stage and a full band. The set, the lighting, the band and Maxwell all looked very classy and sophisticated. The stage sets changed for every song and each set was an amazingly sexy setting to match Maxwell’s voice and lyrics. I was so happy to hear Maxwell sing his old songs like “Fortunate”, “Sumthin’ Sumthin'”, “Lifetime” and “Get to Know Ya”. During “This Woman’s Work”, the screens came down again and created a beautiful heart pattern that grew as he sang this moving song.

Maxwell also just released a new album called BLACKsummers’night and he sang his singles from it “Bad Habits” and “Pretty Wings of Love”. I absolutely love “Pretty Wings of Love” and it was so great to hear it performed live in an outdoor venue with perfect night time weather. If you have not heard this song yet, check this link out with the official video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mLfC2kkvPw

Here’s the official video for Bad Habits, which features Kerry Washington: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsaSF6VgKTY

Maxwell closed the show by singing “Ascension” and the crowd was on their feet and singing along.  It was a great night and we were so lucky that it didn’t rain. Going to this concert made me excited for my next concert…hopefully it will be soon! This was my first time at the SleepTrain Pavillion and I really liked it. I bet it would be great to go this venue again during the summer. Raphael Saddiq is coming to the Fox Theatre in Oakland on November 18th but I won’t be able to make it. Hopefully some of you will get to check out his concert! I hear he is amazing live!

Union Design Festival was AWESOME!

I wanted to let you know how great Union Design Festival was this past Sunday! This was my first time at Union Design Festival since it has been changed from the Capsule Design Festival and I loved it!

It was freezing in the morning so I layered up with gloves, a scarf, a wool coat and five layers of clothes. And boy, was I glad that I did! It was cold all day but there were still a lot of people that came out to the Festival. It was Fleet Week in SF too so the Blue Angels were flying around above us which was really cool too.  I set up in the morning with the help of my friend, Daniel, and was able to take a quick look around at all of the other vendors. As always, the creativity was inspiring and the products were fabulous. I especially loved all of the jewelry designers and I ended up purchasing a great ring!

Thank you to all the great friends that stopped by the Melinda Mae booth: Derrick & Jenalyn, Daisy & Christina, Ryan and Pankaj!

Oh so stylish!

And special thanks to Sandi, Sheshe, Matty, Daniel & Steve for helping me set-up and keeping me company throughout the day! =)

If you missed Union Design Festival, please stop by the Bedford Gallery Craft Fair on November 14th or the Kimochi’s Silver Bells Arts and Crafts Faire on December 13th in SF Japantown.

Getting ready for Union Design Festival!

Tomorrow is the Union Design Festival and I am very very excited! Unfortunately I have been a bit under the weather so it’s been a bit rough trying to focus on getting all my Melinda Mae bags ready. I wanted to give all of you a view into my “studio” as it usually gets when I am getting ready for a show.

As you can see, it’s a mess of fabric, measuring tapes, pins, scissors and thread. But don’t worry, it all eventually transforms into beautiful Melinda Mae handbags. =)

Here is also a sneak preview of the new bags that I made for the Union Design Festival.

Union Design Festival

Union Design Festival

The Union Design Festival is coming soon on Sunday, October 11th from 11am – 6pm in Hayes Valley (Octavia and Hayes) in San Francisco! I have participated in this festival before and I have loved it every time. It is a great atmosphere to celebrate 130 independent designers and artists. The designers are screened and carefully selected to be a part of this festival and I feel so honored that Melinda Mae was picked again! =)

Every year, there is a DJ playing music while hundreds of trendy folks come to shop through all of the amazing products.  I am always tempted to buy new jewelry, t-shirts and artwork. Last time, I was so excited to try on some t-shirts, that I accidentally dropped my sweater into one of the bins. I bought the t-shirt and headed back to my booth. When I realized that I had forgotten my sweater, I ran to the t-shirt booth only to find someone trying to buy my sweater! hahaha

This year, I will be at booth #118, specifically on Octavia and Linden. I hope you can find me amongst the crowd! I will be bringing my white canopy so look for the white canopy, white tablecloths and Melinda Mae handbags! =)

Hayes Valley is also a great place to stroll around after you finish shopping at the festival. Some of my favorite places to go in and near Hayes Valley are Frjtz Gourmet Belgian Fries and Bar Crudo.

Frijtz Gourmet Belgian Fries
is located at 581 Hayes Street and has delicious fries with some very unique dipping sauces. Last time, I ordered the mussels and fries…..mmmmm….The sauces we tried were the white truffle artichoke ketchup, thai chili ketchup and curry ketchup. I like fries, but I like dipping sauces even more! Hopefully you can stop in for a fries snack as a shopping break. hehe

Bar Crudo
is farther away and located on 655 Divisadero, which is a relatively new location. We celebrated my cousin’s birthday there and I was blown away by the freshness of the raw fish. Here are some photos to tempt you.

Bar Crudo is also where I took this great shot of a Melinda Mae handbag. =)

Hopefully I’ll see some of you at the Union Design Festival! Thanks to those who came out to support me at the Spirit of Japantown Festival last weekend! Don’t forget…Booth #118! See you soon!
