Rock Make Festival SF

rmsf

This past Sunday, I went to the 2nd Annual Rock Make Festival in San Francisco. I love going to vendor shows to check out all of the great independent artists and their amazing products. The Rock Make Festival stretched down Treat Street between 17th and 18th. There were band areas on each end of the festival and about 50 vendors selling their innovative products between the band areas.

IMG_1977 As I strolled through the festival, there were a lot of vintage-looking items, jewelry, belts, handbags, dresses, t-shirts, baby clothing, flipflops and much more. I even picked up a great vintage dress for $20! And some great earrings!

ooh...I love the design on the hem of the dress and the mandarin collar! And only $20!

i love the simple elegance of these earrings!

At one end of the fair, there were these guys printing designs on clothing on the spot! I saw someone take off the sweater she was wearing so they could print a huge gold skull design on the spot!

Next to that guy was another guy who was using a screen and paint to put this great design on a t-shirt.IMG_1979

I had a great time at Rock Make. If you didn’t get a chance to go this year, check it out next year!

Photoshoot at Bryant Park

I love taking photos…of food, family, random funny things I see and of course, my Melinda Mae bags! =)  Usually, I have a difficult time finding places where I feel inspired to take photos of my Melinda Mae bags, but when I was in NY, I wanted to set up my bags everywhere! NY is filled of amazing backdrops, beautiful scenery, modern buildings and just enough business for exciting photos. Unfortunately, I couldn’t haul all of my Melinda Mae handbags to New York, but I did bring a few wristlets and clutches. I ended up at Central Park one day, but I didn’t have my handbags with me. =( Central Park is beautiful during the summer and it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the weather. So the next day, I headed out to Bryant Park, which is near Times Square and where Fashion Week takes place every Fall. When I showed up at Bryant Park, there was a yoga in the park class going on. Look how many people were there!

Wandering around Bryant Park, I was inspired to take some great new product shots of my Melinda Mae clutches and wristlets.

I love the colors that stand out in the beads.  I also love the Night Life earrings because they are simple but very very chic.

NYC V: Croxley Ales

This will be one of my last posts about NY but I had to tell you about Croxley Ales and their wings!

Wing goodness!

Wing goodness!

Anyone that knows me knows that I love wings! So we tried this place called Croxley Ales after we found out about their crazy wing deals. Some of their deals include 10 cents wings on Mondays and Wednesdays, free wings at the bar on Fridays from 5-7pm and 20 cents wings on Saturdays and Sundays! Aren’t these ridiculous specials?

So since it was Sunday night, we took a cab to Croxley Ales to enjoy the 20 cents wings! The cab dropped us off about a half block away from the bar. Right when I stepped out of the cab, I smelled a strong mix of buffalo sauce and grease! yum! =)

After reading about the wing specials, I thought that the wings would be super tiny and the place would be a dump.  But I was proven wrong, yet again.

Croxley Ales

Croxley Ales

The bar had a really nice gothic decor and was definitely not a place that I would expect to have wings! For the 20 cents wings, there is a minimum order of 20 wings and a $4 minimum drink order. So I ordered 20 mild wings and my boyfriend ordered 20 of the hottest buffalo wings. We also ordered cajun fries, ranch and extra hot sauce. When the wings came out, I was surprised to see large sized wings piled on a plate.

ooooooo

ooooooo

This is what was on our table for just the two of us. Those 20 wings looked scary, but yummy!

can't do wings without ranch!

this is the best I could do

this is the best I could do

So after 2 containers of ranch, a few wings and handfuls of cajun fries, I was done. I wish I could have eaten more but my tummy is small. =( Don’t worry, the rest of the wings did not go to waste! My boyfriend finished all of his and most of what was left on my plate. Definitely worth $8 for 40 wings!

I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves wings. I would suggest the free wings on Friday from 5-7pm if you can! Next time…I won’t eat the whole day before I go. For more info on Croxley and their specials, go to http://www.croxley.com

SheShe PDC Workshop!

SheShe_FlyerBefore I established Melinda Mae handbags, I was a part of an amazing dance family called Phoenix Dance Company (PDC). Being a dancer in PDC was one of the most challenging, yet exciting times of my life. I met some of the most talented, fun, creative and loving people that I know.  So when I found out that one of my PDC alumni friends, SheShe, was teaching a PDC workshop, I had to go!

SheShe Angeles!

SheShe Angeles!

I haven’t danced with Phoenix in over 2 years, so I knew my body would not enjoy the shock of quick movements and intricate choreography. But SheShe’s choreography was fabulous as I knew it would be. SheShe used “The Seed 2.0” by the Roots from the Phrenology Album. I love that song…such a great song to groove to.

Thanks SheShe for awesome choreo!

So check out SheShe’s choreo below and if you are interested in taking a PDC workshop, go to www.phxdance.com PDC hosts dance workshops on the last Friday of every month. Enjoy!

NYC IV: Ninja!

One of my favorite places to eat in New York is NINJA. Ninja has been featured as an Extreme Restaurant on the Travel Channel and many people rave about this unique dining experience. When you enter Ninja, there is a small entryway with just a lone hostess. Then you take an elevator down to the dining area. As the elevator descends, the lights dim to black and the doors open. Watch out because a ninja will most likely be there to jump out at you and to eventually show you to your table.  The restaurant divides each table into it’s own private dining area. The dim lighting and beautiful japanese decor adds to the mysterious setting.  Even the bathrooms have the special toilets from Japan. If you ever been to Japan, you know what I mean. The waiters never let go of their ninja character roles and jump out at you when they can and draw swords. Not only are the decor and waiters amazing, the food is so yummy!

Floating Sashimi

Floating Sashimi

This sashimi was the freshest fish that I have tasted in awhile and look how magical it looks. Many of the dishes at Ninja come with a special presentation or a small ninja show!

Oyster Fondue and spicy tuna rolls

Oyster Fondue and spicy tuna rolls

When this came out, the oysters were closed. The ninja waiter came out and placed the oysters on the center of a plate and lit a string that was placed underneath the oysters. There was a quick flash and a fire started under the oysters and they slowly opened up.  And to top it off, the fondue was amazing!

Ribeye

Ribeye

When this ribeye came out, it smelled so good that I forgot to take a picture. haha It was delicious and came with a cauliflower and bacon gratin side and three different sauces to dip it in.

Batto Jutsu: Thai-Style Duck

Batto Jutsu: Thai-Style Duck

This dish came out with a sword through the bell pepper and needs the assistance of the customer to remove it. There was a chinese-style roasted duck on the bell pepper and a cold thai-style duck in the silver cup.

Red Pond II: Roasted Black Cod

After all the delicious courses, there was dessert. After all the wonderful dishes, I was thinking that the dessert might not be so good, but I was wrong!

Rose Chocolate Dessert

This dessert was amazing. Fresh berries with strawberry sorbet, chocolate cookie and a chocolate mousse. It was the perfect ending to a fabulous meal. At the end of the meal, they do a quick magic show for you and they give you Ninja stickers to take home. I love this place! Unfortunately, I have only been here twice, but I definitely want to keep going. This place absolutely lives up to it’s reputation. For more info, go to: www.ninjanewyork.com
